Children who grow up loved and secure become adults who look after their families and their communities.
Village halls, parish churches, school PTAs and football clubs all depend on the families who turn up.
Family breakdown in the UK is among the highest in the developed world. The Centre for Social Justice estimates it costs the country over £50 billion a year. Community centres have closed and high streets have emptied.
Rebuilding starts locally. Volunteer at your school, help at the village hall, speak up at local meetings, or stand for the parish council. Councils and Westminster pay attention when people turn up.
What Sherrie is calling for
- A transferable marriage tax allowance worth at least £1,000 a year, so the tax system supports couples who stay together
- Statutory protection and ring-fenced funding for village halls, community centres, and youth clubs
- Family hubs in every constituency offering parenting support, mental health help, and early intervention before crises hit
- Stamp duty relief and housing priority for families with children, so young couples can afford to put down roots near their parents and grandparents
- Paid time off work to serve on parish councils, school governing boards, and PTAs, so people on ordinary incomes can take part
