A million young people are not in work or education. Most of them are men. White working class boys, the lowest performing in our schools for fifteen years.
Suicide is the biggest killer of men under fifty in Britain. The mental health waiting list is at record highs.
"Why are they ignored? Because they have no lobby. Because politicians have decided their pain is inconvenient. Because no one wants to be the first to say their name."
I am about to give birth to a son. I will not raise him in a country that has stopped fighting for its boys.
What Sherrie is calling for
- A male suicide prevention strategy with ring-fenced funding — named targets, named accountability, not warm words
- White working class boys named as a named educational priority, with targeted intervention programmes in underperforming schools
- Apprenticeship and vocational routes funded equally to university — so a boy who works with his hands is not treated as a second-class citizen
- Mental health waiting times for men cut to a maximum of four weeks, with same-day crisis support available in every constituency
- An end to the institutional silence around young men — their outcomes tracked, named, and reported on just as we track every other group
